SHAHNA-E-HAQ BY HADHRAT MIRZA GHULAM AHMAD OF QADIAN (BOOKS)

Ahmadiyya Mosque, Belgium
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during Ramadan this site is running a series of book reviews of the writings of The Promised Messiah of Islam, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Earlier editions, as well as a schedule for future reviews, are available here. In this edition of the series, Sister Peace discusses Shahna-e-Haq, which is available for free in it's original Urdu from alislam.org:

Historical and Social Background of the Publication of Shana-e-Haq
In 1886 The Promised Messiah had published 'Surmah Chashm-e-Aryah' which was a book based on a debate he had had with a Hindu Aryah Samaj leader. Clearly, the Aryah Samaj had no answer to his theological arguments, as in 1887 they responded with a number of baseless accusations, using harsh language not only against the Promised Messiah but also our beloved Master, the Holy Prophet Mohammad s.a.w and they so they published a book titled, ’Surma Chashma Arya ki Haqeeqat or Fun or Fareb Ghulam Ahmad ki Kaifiyat’ (The Truth about Surma Chashma Arya and a description of the Deceit and dishonesty of Ghulam Ahmad).

There were also another foul book written by the Arya leader, Lekh Ram. On March 29, 1888, the Christian newspaper Nur Afshan reviewed this book of his as follows, "Whatever truth there might be in it, the author has certainly excelled even the worst of fanatics in abuses, trash, lies and fabrication. He has written such absurd and nonsensical things that no educated and civilized person could ever utter them much less put them in black and white.” Meanwhile, the editor of Mihr Nimroz merely described Lekh Ram as 'a funny gossiper'.

In 1887, The Promised Messiah wrote Shahna-e-Haq, which gave detailed and logical answers to the Aryas, proving the falseness of the claims made in their book.

The Contents of Shahna-e-Haq
The writings of the Promised Messiah (as) are fascinating to say the least; Hudhur captivates the reader with his beautifully expressed language and the logic and depth of his arguments. The Promised Messiah has in this book explained to the Arya Samaj  the negative impact the bad language, lies and deceitful methods they were employing , would have on their faith. The allegations included (in their words):

Mirza has no knowledge of our religious literature. Mirza is short of money and  is in debt. Mirza told the Imam of Qadian Mosque that he had been instructed in a revelation that he should dig his son’s grave, even though this did not come true and the son is still alive. In Surma  Chashma  Arya, there are no references given to any of our books. All the knowledge and skills being seen in the world today are due to the blessings of the Vedas. All the revelations detailed in the ‘Braheen e Ahmaqiyya’ (the derogatory name they had for the Braheen e Ahmadiyya books) are lies and deceit.

These were not the only allegations, I have listed a few above to show readers the depth of the enmity and the web of lies the Arya Samajists had developed against the Promised Messiah (as). The Promised Messiah (as) successfully answered each and every allegation made and not only this, makes some really deep and insightful points showing that the Aryas did not have a leg to stand on. It was because of this logical and clear destruction of the criticisms the Aryas made against Islam and the Holy Quran that the Aryas had now resorted to bad language and mudslinging.

I am not going to go into the answers given by the Promised Messiah as I think people should read this book themselves to understand the beauty of his writings and to increase their knowledge. I must say however, that in answer to the allegation that his revelations in Braheen e Ahmadiyya were false, he has used an excellent method, in that he has listed a number of his prophecies to which named Aryas were witness and to which they would testify. The Imam of the Qadian Mosque also provided written testimony that Hudhur had not told him about any revelation relating to his son dying! This book is currently only available in its’ original Urdu version and I cannot but emphasise to readers how important it is to read the original Urdu where possible as translations are not the same.

Discussion of Selected Passages from Shahna-e-Haq
Author's Note: Most of these are unofficial translations done by me and need to be checked by scholars of Urdu for mistakes before used elsewhere:
"Regretfully, these people are stuck in the web (net) of their belief in reincarnation and superstition around transmigration (the cycle of rebirths), and are intoxicated with this in such a way that they are no longer in the habit of searching for the reasons behind anything unexplained, and the Vedas’ misleading teachings have turned them away from thousands of excellent and enchanting philosophical points, resulting in them again and again ending in the pit of ‘avagone’ (system of rebirth). And of all the worlds’ knowledge base, this misconceived belief is the only thing they have taken to heart, that the existence of the world and creation of the heavens and the earth are due simply to the actions of people rather than the perfect wisdom of a Creator; If there were not immorality and immoral actions, there would neither be cows, bulls etc and things that humans need, in fact there would not be the female gender either, and it is due to this reason that these people always avoid scholarly and logical investigations, and in fact are completely empty of this ability and remain ignorant and deprived so that they do not find out about the secrets of life worth investigating or about the unknown facts of all other creation, putting it all down to the past actions of a previous life.....” (The Promised Messiah, Shahna-e-Haq, Ruhani Khuzain, Volume 2 Page 27)
In the passage above, The Promised Messiah comments on the pitfalls of believing in reincarnation etc.
“Experience teaches us the well understood lesson that to find out the true reality of something unknown, vast investigations are undertaken. And to find out about one small detail (or attribute), it is required that all other minutiae/attributes are looked at. “ (The Promised Messiah, Shahna-e-Haq, Ruhani Khuzain, Volume 2 Page 29)
The Promised here has commented on how one should carefully search for the truth.
“Nothing is hidden in such a way that it does not become clear in the end. So if I am really dishonest, then this dishonesty will destroy me. However, I am true and He (Allah) who can see my heart, He does not find any deceit in it, so if the first of the Aryas and the last of the Aryas, and the living Aryas and the deceased Aryas, in fact all the adversaries from beginning till end, collect together to defeat me, they will never be able to defeat me, not until that task is completed by my hand, for which Allah, the Glorious, has appointed me.” (The Promised Messiah, Shahna-e-Haq, Ruhani Khuzain, Volume 2 Page 41)
The Promised Messiah reminds the reader that he is being judged by Allah and helped by Allah and no other force can stop his movement whilst it continues to receive the help of Allah.
Some revelations indicated that the family into which I would marry would be high and noble. One revelation said that ‘God has provided you with a noble descent and has arranged your marriage in a noble family.’ All this was communicated to Lalah Sharampat long before the event. He well knows that, without any effort on my part, God arranged this relationship in a high and noble family… of Sayyeds and made provision for all connected matters and expense in such a manner that I did not undergo any trouble in that regard. To this day, He continues to fulfil this promise. (The Promised Messiah, Shahna-e-Haq, Ruhani Khuzain, Volume 2 Page 57)
The above passage is in reference to his marriage to Hadhrat Nusrat Jehan Begum.
